Or Will It

little by little the window dissolved
contours dissolve a little,
sounds also dissolved a little.

a big buzz, people heard the spring-lock click shut: the closing of the final door.

a carpet of empty hours andpromised rain. be quiet now.

water nibbles on the sand, the doubt is waning. whether to stay.

foam melts in foam. the tide of the moon swills in the body, sloshes in the blood, polishes the edge,
cream falters, wavers on the word.

will it or won’t it. unheard, it will slide into the water. past the nothingness, much like a lowland lifting the evening.

a little glow, still, just a bit later.

He fumbles at your Soul

He fumbles at your Soul
As Players at the Keys —
Before they drop full Music on —
He stuns you by Degrees —

Prepares your brittle Nature
For the Ethereal Blow
By fainter Hammers — further heard —
Then nearer — Then so — slow —

Your Breath — has time to straighten —
Your Brain — to bubble Cool —
Deals One — imperial Thunderbolt —
That scalps your naked soul —

When Winds hold Forests in their Paws —
The Universe — is still —

blues

the light broke through the glass blocks again and
played over the tiles, the parquet, showing how yawn-
ingly empty the room was, for there was not so much
as a bed in the house. nor did it echo as it did just so
recently, which was probably because no-one was
speaking; I went slowly through the empty rooms while
the light was breaking through glass blocks. we haven’t
seen these glass blocks for a long time when there was
furniture here we didn’t notice them it was a winter’s day
and outside the sun was shining that didn’t fit into my
scheme of things I went through the empty rooms again.
then on top of that the sound of birdsong came in from
outside which I was not quite able to ignore. the light
broke through the glass blocks again I could not fail to
see it so I thought it better to go back down to the base-
ment where there was still an old mirror hanging in the
hobby room. I could see eyes in it, but they were not only
mine. there were people dancing, they were behind me.
there were peanut flips on the lino. music was playing
and a record was jumping. I turned around, but saw no-
one dancing. no flips on the floor, only dust and silence
and light pushing weakly through the basement window.

New album

Scintilla by Pilots in Ejector Seats

Pilots In Ejector Seats’ debut album Scintilla explores a mournful landscape though which a
hesitant, isolated narrator makes his way as he flirts with entering a world filled with disconnection, loss and doubt.

Scintilla is the result of an online collaboration between the talented M. Dickes and myself.

The album is to be streamed anywhere and can even be bought, if you’re into that kind of thing;

New video

Anderkatt

Video for the poem Anderkatt by Georg Less

The Haircut
Gooseflesh because you speak of flesh
before you speak of fur

when you say mongoose—
bloated and terrible—
I see your hair, your cheek, and know
I would never groom that animal,

though even the beasts who bred it
would not claim it,

though the two of us be hugged
by a pair of scissors,
aren’t we still safe,
if breathless, if our fur sprouts thick between us,

gooseflesh because you speak of expeditions,
because you speak of the North
before you speak of the ship,
a wave of fur collapses over that ship and holds tight

toward another shore where language is as sore and particular as a furry export
of logic, where I only feel
what my dry mouth cannot utter.

remake video

On Edward Hopper’s Automat

Film for the poem ‘On Edward Hopper’s Automat’ by HK Hummel.

Poem: H.K. Hummel (from Handmade Boats; )

Girl: Hanne Jacobs
Voice: Nic Sebastian

I created a remake fot this video to enter and be shown at FRAME TO FRAMES : YOUR EYES FOLLOW
Ekphrastic Poetry Film Screening

In comparison with the previous version, I wanted to steer away from the suspense and wanted to  put more focus on the melancholic and loneliness. Bringing the main character of the  poem/painting in a modern more crowded setting (Antwerp). As a contrast I put in an extra screen  with flowers (but using the same in and out of focus technique) with added words. The additional  words were chosen from a book on Hopper’s work for an extra connection with the artist behind  the painting.

I placed the original from 2011 under the remake.

CD

The secret Language of Light

During the first lockdown I collaborated with Janet Lees, English photographer, visual artist and writer, to create soundtracks to some short films based on manipulated pictures.

The Secret Language of Light is a 54-minute sound collage that was originally created for short films of Janet Lees“based on manipulated pictures.”
It is not a single soundtrack for a 53-minute movie, but “a compilation of combined stories that were created in response to a series of Lees’ manipulated stills”.

The beauty of this audio-visual collaboration can of course best be demonstrated by showing a few of the ‘manipulated still’-videos:

from the Ambient Blog:

“but even without these captivating images, the music tells its story in a powerful way.
Neys – Belgian composer who is also known as No One – uses field recordings, different instruments, and a lot of found sounds to create the soundtracks. Merged together as one, they add up to “a great journey through foggy mountains and hazy shores under clear pastel skies, calm and cirrus”.

The CD is for sale with Frozen Light Label or me.
